Auch bei dieser Bewegungsart finden wir, wie oben geschildert, die gesetzmåssige Bogenbewe- gung. In der Tat sieht man in dem hinteren Teile der Larve eine schråg gerichtete Wimperbewegung, die als Steuerung dient. Eine Mitschleppung des Mesenteriums und die Ver- schiebung eines Teils des rechten Coloms nach links ergibt sich als naturliche Folge. Die Colomverhaltnisse stiitzen unsre Annahme einer Urform mit nach rechts verschobenem Enddarm. Die Holothurien steilen nicht, wie Semon (1884) meinte, primitive Formen der Echinodermen dar. Die gleiche Erscheinung trat bei einigen Eiern, welche ich am 28/2 in dem erwahnten Stadium aus dem Fjord gefischt erhalten hatte, sclion am nachsten Tage au f. (Fig. 4). Wir haben das Mikroskop horizontal aufgestellt und die Larven in einer kleinen Kammer von der Seite beobach- tet. In dem Wasser wurde Tusche aufgeschwemmt. Wir betrach- ten zunåchst die Wimperbewegung bei Vertikalstellung. Es wurde dabei zunåchst festgestellt, dass nicht alle Wimpern in dieselbe Richtung schlagen. Die meisten schlagen in vertikaler Rich- tung, auch wenn die Larve keine Bewegung in dieser Rich- tung ausfuhrt. Oberraschend ist zugleich, dass die Wimper- bewegung ofte
