Be it known that I, MORRIS MATZNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State fof New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Appliances; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in safety appliances and more particularly to that class adapted to be used for preventing accidents while cleaning windows and my object is to provide a belt which is adapted to be secured around the body of a person while cleaning a window and a further object is to provide means which is adapted to be attached to the belt and to an object within the room to prevent the person from falling backward out of a window.

Other objects and advantages will be here inafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claim.

teferring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, l indicates a belt, which may be constructed in the usual or any preferred manner, one end of the belt being provided with a tongue 2 and the opposite end thereof with a buckle 3, by which means the belt is secured in position around the waist of the person.

Attached to the belt l and at opposite sides of the tongue and buckle are loops 4, which are employed for securing to the belt rings 5, said rings being adapted to receive snap hooks 6, which have swivel connection with the ends of a cable or retaining member 7, said retaining member being doubled upon itself and the two sections secured together to form a loop 8 to which is attached a snap hook 9, said snap hook being in turn adapted to engage a screw eye l0 fastened at any suitable point within the room, preferably to a base board 1l.

The primary object of my improved invention is to prevent a person from falling when sitting upon a window sill to clean the outer surface of the windows and by attaching the cable 7 to the belt as shown and securing the opposite end thereof to the screw eye within the room, the wearer will be held against tilting backward and can freely perform the operation of cleaning the windows without employing the use of the hands in maintaining his or her position on the window sill.

The cable is of such length that when applied to use, it will be stretched substantially taut and by passing the two sections thereof between the knees of the person cleaning the. window, the body will be given greater stability and more readily prevent backward tilting of the body.

It will be readily seen that this device can be very cheaply constructed and quickly applied to use and further that it will prevent the accidental falling of the person from the window while at work and should the person lose her balance, the cable and belt will prevent the person from falling from the window.

That I claim is:

A device of the character described, comprising a belt, rings applied laterally to said belt, a retaining cable having its ends connected to said rings and looped downwardly, its looped end being provided with a snap hook and means for effecting connection between the latter and a fixture, said looped portion of said cable being adapted to be engaged by the knees of the user to effect a bracing action for the latter.
