Remember Turmeric Latte? When Haldi Doodh got that fancy name in the West? Well, the West has just discovered Dalgona Coffee and is going crazy over their latest obsession. But wait. Isn't that just plain old Phenti Hui Coffee we have been making at home for years?

Now you are probably living under a rock if you have not stumbled upon aesthetic pictures of delicious-looking Dalgona Coffee while mindlessly scrolling through social media during the lockdown. Sorry, if you have not. But it is, at the moment, the biggest trend that is making a buzz across social media platforms. Right from Twitter to Facebook, Instagram and TikTok - Dalgona Coffee is all over the internet.

The delish-looking coffee is quite easy to prepare. All you gotta do is put some coffee, sugar and very little hot water in a mug. Whip till it gets frothy. Now, add this whipped mix on top of iced milk.

Coffee lovers in India would find it similar to our Phenti Coffee. Or Beaten Coffee, if you need an English name for the desi delicacy. You must be familiar with the long whipping sessions (as long as 30 minutes or even more) to attain that perfect frothy mix.

However, the only difference is that in our version of the Dalgona, we pour milk over that mix. In the case of Dalgona Coffee, the frothy mix is added on top of iced milk to make it look Instagram-worthy.

It is not just us, netizens also have the same feelings.

The Dalgona Coffee trend basically started on TikTok in the West. Are we surprised? No. West is quite known to give fancy twists to our existing desi recipes. Take the Turmeric Latte that we began this piece with, for example. Where they add maple syrup to our basic cup of Haldi wala Doodh and call it Turmeric Latte. Duh.
