Adventure Micro-Vans (Kei Van)
Subaru Sambar
Micro-Vans such as the Subaru Sambar are popular in Asia and other parts of the world. The are compact and allow for driving down narrow roads and fitting in tight parking spaces. These are economical and quite practical. Unfortunately, they are severely underpowered for US standards and perhaps a bit too compact for American body sizes.
The Subaru Sambar is available in full time 4whee drive with a dual range transmission. Their little engines are even available with a supercharger. It really makes for a great little adventure van.

These are great little vans but can be slow when going up a steep incline when packed with passengers and adventure gear. Sleeping space is limited.

These seem to be popular for use in the Mongol Rally. This may or may not be a compliment as the rules stipulate that the vehicle must "generally be considered to be crap."
