Clearly drawing a little inspiration (or a lot) from Volkswagen's venerated Syncro four-wheel-drive transporters (above), the Mud Master-C from Daihatsu (remember the fittingly named Charade?) debuts at the Tokyo Show sporting sixteen-inch off-road tires, 14.6 inches of ground clearance, and a big rear compartment accessed by swing-up hatches on three sides. No word yet on the Mud Master's powerplant, but don't expect much — a 660-cc two-cylinder gasoline engine or a wee-bitty turbodiesel are possibilities. Whatever powers it, we'd say avoid stiff winds and fast corners.
