It’s been a big year for singer-songwriter and fashion icon Harry Styles. Despite the ongoing pandemic, he’s managed to shoot a can’t-miss music video on the Amalfi Coast, cracked the code on autumn dressing, and debuted a brand-new short haircut that had fans going wild. Now, Styles adds another accomplishment to the list in becoming Vogue’s first-ever solo male cover star. Want more factoids about our December cover stay? Here, five things you likely didn’t know about the pop sensation.

  1. He knows his way around a baked good. Long before Styles’s musical career took off, his first job was at a bakery in his native Holmes Chapel in England, where he earned 6 British pounds (about $8) per hour working after school and on weekends.

  2. He has great taste in country-music divas. Styles said in a 2017 interview that his main influence in both music and fashion was “probably Shania Twain,” adding, “I think she’s amazing.”

  3. He's a not-so-secret rom-com fan. Specifically, Styles loves The Notebook. (Deep same, Harry. Deep same.)

  4. One Direction wasn’t his first band. At their local school, Styles and three of his friends formed a band called White Eskimo, which managed to snag a win at a local band competition.

  5. He’s multitalented. If music hadn’t worked out for Styles, he had other plans at the ready: He was considering becoming a physiotherapist or a lawyer.
