Harry Styles Gets Clocked In The Face Yet Again, This Time In Vienna

The trend of fan-tossed projectiles continues, with the former One Direction singer as the latest casualty.

Harry Styles is the latest musician to be struck in the face by a flying object during a performance, it appears. According to a video posted to social media, Styles was hit Saturday night during the Vienna, Austria show of his Love on Tour concert series.

Styles was “in the middle” of his set when something—it’s unclear exactly what—struck his face, near his left eye, according to TMZ. In the video, which appears to have been first posted by Instagram user harryloustan1, the 29-year-old recoils in seeming pain, doubles over for a moment, then continues across the stage while still holding his face.

It’s been a rough time to be Styles’s mug. Last month, he was hit by a bouquet of pink flowers while performing onstage in Cardiff, Wales; in November, the projectiles were a handful of Skittles tossed at the stage in Los Angeles. Following the Skittles incident, tour drummer Pauli Lovejoy said Styles was “OK” and asked, “Do me a favor, don't throw no more Skittles on stage.”

In fact, Styles has a long history as the target of thrown objects. As British GQ noted last year, in his days as a member of the boy band One Direction, he was hit in the face with a tampon; in early 2022, he managed to dodge some chicken nuggets thrown his way at Madison Square Garden and paused the show to jokingly scold the pitcher, saying “I don’t eat meat.”

While the practice of fans throwing objects at performers is nothing new, the Associated Press reports that projectiles of yore, including bras and room keys, have been replaced by heavier and potentially more dangerous objects like cell phones—tossed, perhaps, by folks hoping the star will pick the phone up and use it to create a social media moment.

Then again, perhaps their motives are even less pure. According to the criminal complaint filed against a man who allegedly threw a phone at musician Bebe Rexha last month, New Jersey resident Nicolas Malvagna reportedly told investigators he was "trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny."

Rexha has since donned protective eyewear while performing, and earlier this month, Adele issued a preemptive warning to fans that might join the arguable trend. “Have you noticed how people are like, forgetting fucking show etiquette at the moment? People just throwing shit on stage, have you seen them?” she said from the Caesars Palace stage of her Las Vegas residency, Weekends With Adele.

“I fucking dare you. Dare you to throw something at me and I’ll fucking kill you," the multi-Grammy Award-winning singer warned.
