Thor amboinensis is often found, sometimes in groups, around large sea anemones, but can sometimes also be seen around corals, in algae, or even on large holothurians. In June 2014 there were large numbers around just about any anemone on the muck slopes around Tulamben; it must have been a good year for settling since in subsequent years the numbers were much lower.
