Why is ‘Harry Styles dead’ trending?

Singer Harry Styles has fallen victim of an internet hoax that he has passed away.

A website, known for publishing fake death announcements, claimed that a Facebook page had emerged with the title "RIP Harry Styles".

The post read: "At about 11am ET on Wednesday (November 8,2023), our beloved singer Harry Styles passed away.

"Harry Styles was born on February 1, 1994 in Homes Chapel. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."

But the article has proven to be fake and the Facebook page doesn't exist.

The fake post even claimed that the singer's representatives officially confirmed that he is not dead.

It reported: “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax.

"He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet."

The news is totally fabricated and the pop star is alive and well.

Fans seemed to have also confused the former One Direction singer's "death" for that of his famous curly hairstyle online.

Pop enthusiasts were left disappointed after the star swapped his famous curls for a buzzcut.

One fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter: "RIP Harry Styles' beautiful hair."

Another added: "You were so loved by me."

Who is Harry Styles?

Harry Edward Styles was born on February 1, 1994 in Worcestershire, England.

He rose to stardom as a member of the boy band One Direction - which was formed in 2010 on UK's The X Factor

It featured Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, as well as Zayn Malik, who departed the band in 2015.

The remaining foursome announced an indefinite hiatus in January 2016, and haven't reformed since.

The band had huge global success including becoming the first group to have its first four albums debut at No1 on the Billboard 200.

However they failed to secure any number one singles in the US, peaking at No2 on the Hot 100 in August 2013 with The Best Song Ever.

They achieved six top 10 hits, including What Makes You Beautiful, which reached No4, and Live While You're Young and Drag Me Down which both peaked at No3.

Since their split, Harry has seen his career rise with hit songs and also appearing in the movie Dunkirk.

His hit single Watermelon Sugar from his 2019 album Fine Line gained Styles a Grammy and a Brit Award in 2021.

It also saw him secure his first US No1 hit in the Hot 100, an achievement he replicated in 2022 when As It Was also topped the charts.

Incredibly it stayed at number one for 15 weeks.

His three albums - Harry Styles (2017), Fine Lines (2019), and Harry's House (2022) - all reached the number one position on the Billboard 200.
