Natural History: The Twinspot Hogfish is found on sand slopes with scattered boulders in small groups, sometimes mixed with golden wrasses (Halichoeres chrysus). It is more common in deeper water. There are two color forms, one has red longitudinal stripes and the other lacks them, and is instead all yellow.
Husbandry: The Twinspot Hogfish may become aggressive as an adult and bully smaller or docile tankmates, especially newcomers to the aquarium. Only one should be housed per tank. It is the best hogfish for small marine systems because of its small size. Adults may harass small ornamental shrimp, especially after molting. It is also tolerant of bright-light reef systems.
