Shakira Announces First Album in Seven Years ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’
Shakira is crying diamonds on the cover of her newly-announced album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. Out March 22, the record marks her first full-length studio release in seven years and encapsulates the transformations she’s undergone in the time since.
“Making this body of work has been an alchemical process. While writing each song I was rebuilding myself,” Shakira shared in a statement. “While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”
Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran will feature 16 songs, including the previously released singles “BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53” with Bizarrap, “TQG” with Karol G, “Te Felicito” with Rauw Alejandro, and “Copa Vacía” with Manuel Turizo.
The record also arrives following a year of career heights for Shakira. In 2023, she was awarded Song of the Year and Best Pop Song at the Latin Grammy Awards for “BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53,” which also broke more than a dozen world records. The electropop record, which tore into the singer’s ex-husband Gerard Piqué — racked up 80.6 million streams on Spotify in its first week of release. It now sits at more than 885 million streams.
Shakira was also the recipient of the 2023 Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. She performed a career-spanning medley of hits before accepting her trophy, concluding her speech in Spanish with a proud message. “This is for my people,” she said. “The Latin American people inside and outside of this country, thank you for inspiring me and injecting me with so much power and will to keep going. I love you.”
The singer’s last album, El Dorado, arrived in 2017 and featured collaborations with Maluma, Nicky Jam, Prince Royce, Carlos Vives, and more.
