Macolor niger (Forsskål, 1775)
Macolor is a genus of marine ray-finned fish, snappers, belonging to the family Lutjanidae. They are native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean.
The genus name is possibly derived from "macula", Latin for "spot", a reference to the white spotting on the otherwise black body of the juvenile of Macolor niger.
The Macolor niger is not suitable for aquarium keeping at the expected size of 75 cm.
At juvenile age, this fish displays a beautiful black and white color dress, but this fades completely at adult age.
