Inhabits sheltered, shallow reefs, hiding among live or dead coral branches. Adults almost black and some populations have a reddish tail. Juveniles often bright yellow. It feed on algae, its a very good algae eater.
Astrosalarias fuscus is a peaceful bottom dwellers.They been known to be territorial with other blennies, small gobies, dartfish and species that have a similar appearance !

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
