Chaetodon ulietensis is also commonly referred as the Pacific double-saddle butterflyfish and can be found occurring in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region and its distribution extends from the Cocos-Keeling Islands to the Tuamoto Islands, north to Japan and south to the Solomon Islands and Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
The Pacific double-saddle butterflyfish is best recognised by the double black saddles and its body colour, particularly with the white colour between the saddles.
Chaetodon ulietensis can be found occurring on coral reefs and in lagoons however juveniles are often encountered in estuaries and harbours. It is usually solitary however can often be seen in pairs or small groups and is known to feed on plant and animal material.
Replaced by C. falcula from Java to the west.
Remarks:
Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.
