Jorge Lorenzo

Jorge Lorenzo is retired, gradually shaping himself into a car racer with a Porsche, but he remains at the heart of MotoGP news as an informed commentator. A posture that his five world titles and his official status as a Grand Prix legend necessarily legitimize. Then Por Fuera speaks, and in the same frank and sharp tone which was also his prerogative when he was a pilot. His latest outing proves it since the Majorcan does not hesitate to put the last three World Champions in their place, recalling that they danced while the captain Marc Marquez was not there, or diminished enough not to hold one’s rank…

We can always debate the positions taken by Jorge Lorenzo, but what is certain is that we can never suspect him of not being sincere. A character trait that always shakes up conventions, which the Spaniard fully embraces: “ some said I was only talking about myself, that I'm an arrogant person » he said before specifying: “ but it was possible to verify that I was impartial. I have always talked about everything without opting for anyone, not telling the truth, but my truth ».

From there, he asserts his conviction against all odds regarding the last three seasons accomplished with a Marc Marquez either forfeit or far from being able to enjoy its full potential. An approach which, to be mistaken, makes Joan Peace, fabio quartararo and Pecco Bagnaia second best or opportunists... He explains thus on mowmag : " I think Marc Marquez is still technically the best. Physically, he's not the best right now, because of his unfortunate arm. But he's the only one not afraid of falling. This sometimes works against him, but when it works in his favor, it's a great quality ».

Marc Marquez, Jorge Lorenzo, MotoGP Historical Pairs

Jorge Lorenzo: “ with the young people who have progressed, without fear and with so much ambition, little by little the difference that Marc Marquez could have with the others is diminishing«

And he verified this quality himself in his own career: “ when I was young, I didn't worry about falling. At Le Mans in 2009, I won a “flag to flag” race with a big gap, driving fast in the wet on slick tires. But in recent years, with so many injuries behind me, I didn't want to risk too much in the wet and that affected my performance ».

Then he stops talking about himself to refocus on today's MotoGP with a Marc Marquez who is no longer in top form. The opportunity to recognize, all the same, the advent of a new generation: “ with the young people who have progressed, without fear and with so much ambition, little by little the difference that Marc could have with the others diminishes ».

Sure, but Jorge Lorenzo remains firm on this position: “ I'm sure if Marc is 100% and if Honda helps him, he will slowly return to winning races and world championships ". And all the more so since the last three titles would have finally materialized by default… “ For me, world titles have been won in the last three seasons without the best driver on track, which is always Marc Marquez. Without him, or with Marc mid-service, it was much easier. With Marc 100% on track, certainly one of the titles would not have happened. I don't know if all three would have been won by Marc, maybe one would have escaped him. But I think all three could have been won by a real Marc Marquez ". All that remains is to hope for a 2023 campaign with a Marc Marquez found to put this theory to the test.

Jorge Lorenzo: "The world championships of Mir, Quartararo and Bagnaia? Marc Marquez would have won them all"
