Premiere & Discussion SONGGORITI Docuseries Tuesday, 6 February 2024, 6pm-9pm Everyone's invited! Songgoriti is a tourism destination in Batu, a city that boasts touristic landscapes of mountains and hills at 800 meters above sea level. The neighbourhood includes Candi Songgoriti, one of the oldest ancient temples in East Java, as well as a hot spring. At the same time, Songgoriti also receives the stereotype as a red light district. Directed and produced by the SEANNET Songgoriti team, SONGGORITI Docuseries depict the daily life of Songgoriti Neighbourhood in Batu, East Java, Indonesia. The docuseries remind us that Songgoriti is much more than tourism and negative stereotypes. We will gain deeper insights of the communities in Songgoriti through the six episodes: Gang Macan, Historic Stones, Villa Economy, Traditional Culture Groups, Social Groups, and Youth Aspirations. The production of the docuseries will be a collaborative program between a team from Universitas Brawijaya and the youth group of Songgokerto (Karang Taruna), under the auspices of the Southeast Asia Neighborhoods Network (SEANNET). The docuseries will also serve as audio-visual materials to support several courses at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Brawijaya. Congratulations to SEANNET Songgoriti team. We really look forward to the launch of the docuseries, to incorporate the stories into our teaching on cities, and to further collaborate with you and the people of Songgoriti!

We are pleased to announce the publication of book number 56 in the NICCOS Series. At the 1955 Bandung Conference representatives of 29 independent Asian and African countries discussed matters ranging from national unity, decolonization, economic development and their role in international policy. The ten points’ declaration of the conference, the so-called ‘Spirit of Bandung’, included the principles of nationhood for the future of the newly independent nations and their interrelations. After the Bandung Conference most ‘non-aligned’ Asian and African countries opted for philosophies of national unity to guarantee peace and stability. In the African case of Tanzania, the Ujamaa philosophy was secular although Tanzania had a ‘civic religion’. In the Asian case of Indonesia, the philosophy of Pancasila was ‘religious pluralistic’ by recognizing six ‘official’ religions. In both this and other countries, the philosophies of national unity are now contested. Therefore, 68 years after the Bandung Conference, experts from Africa, Asia and Europe address the questions: · What philosophy, secular or religious, succeeds or succeeded in promoting peace and stability? · Are there comparable philosophies of national unity from other countries? #OpenAccess #forfree available at Radboud University Press, see: https://lnkd.in/g4U2E4JZ To purchase a paperback version of this book, please follow this link: https://lnkd.in/gWA7FvQz Frans Dokman Kankindi Antoinette (eds.) I have begun studying up on my ancestors' connection to Indonesia because of the planned visit by Pope Francis to Indonesia in a few months time. It's interesting, to say the least. My ancestors pop up in the most surprising times and places, joining various dots together in history. The Indonesian National Awakening (Indonesian: Kebangkitan Nasional Indonesia) is a term for the period in the first half of the 20th century, during which people from many parts of the archipelago of Indonesia first began to develop a national consciousness as "Indonesians". -https://lnkd.in/gSXxkGPT Budi Utomo (Dutch: Boedi Oetomo, meaning "Noble Endeavour")[2] was an early native nationalist political society in the Dutch East Indies.[3] The organization's founding in 1908 is considered instrumental to the beginning of the Indonesian National Awakening. Budi Utomo is considered the first nationalist society in the Dutch East Indies. The founder of Budi Utomo was Wahidin Soedirohoesodo, a retired government doctor who felt that native intellectuals should improve public welfare through education and culture.[4] The society held its first congress on 20 May 1908,[5] a gathering of students at STOVIA, a medical school in Batavia (present-day Jakarta). - https://lnkd.in/gnN5jYJk 15 August, 1908: "Mr Robert Crowe, Government Chief Officer of the Export Department, returned to Melbourne on 9th August, from a trip to Java and Singaore, undertaken about 10 weeks ago, for health reasons. Mr Crowe's health has been much improved by the voyage." ==> I wonder if Robert Crowe took the opportunity to pop in to see a doctor at STOVIA whilst he was in Java (for health reasons). And to witness the proud birth of Indonesia's 17,000 islands as a unified nation? Another Australian and British national security secret. ASIO tried to set me up for blackmail and extortion. David Irvine, Director General of ASIO, was from Perth, where PwC sent me. His LinkedIn CV is missing for the period I was there. An expert on Indonesia, he was "Minister in Java" from 1988-90. See: https://lnkd.in/gBRVcxVs. He targeted me as part of a campaign to eliminate Australian peoples' rights to water independent from Parliament ("The Crown"). Irvine became the Australian High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea and our Ambassador to China. In 2017 he became Chair of the Foreign Investment Review Board, with supervision over the sale of retail housing, farmland and water assets to foreigners including the Canadian Police and Army Pension Fund, during a period when our retail real estate assets were being used by organised crime for laundering dirty money. Whilst he was at ASIO, it was infiltrated by Soviet operatives with a recruitment mandate. ==> Irvine served as a diplomat in Rome (1970-73). ==> My Auntie Joanie, a nun, died suddenly after visiting me in Perth. I now believe she was murdered. When will Parliament restore freedom for Australians (our water rights)? https://lnkd.in/gV_UCCmB
