Child-led doesn’t mean aimlessly following a child around. It’s joining them where they are at. Co-regulating and creating joint attention. It’s having goals but working at their pace on their level. 🙌🏽❤️
I talk about parent-led and many think it contrasts with child-led, but no, you can have both! A parent learning to follow their child's lead and infusing functional, natural learning opportunities is a beautiful sight!!

DIR® NEWS: https://lnkd.in/ejEZABtV Over the weekend, a new law passed in California expanding insurance coverage to include DIR® and all other evidence-based approaches! This bill was sponsored by the DIR/Floortime Coalition of California, a group comprised of clinicians and parents of autistic individuals across the state who support education and advocacy for DIRFloortime. "Over the years, more research has supported developmental approaches, and organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association have written policies that support a range of services. This year, the DIR/Floortime Coalition of CA worked closely with CA Dept of HHS, CA Dept of Developmental Services, Department of Consumer Affairs, and the governor’s office to craft a bill together. For too long, families have not had any choice in the form of services for their child. Many families do not even know that there are evidence-based options for care. Specifically, developmental relationship-based models, which are not based on ABA, offer a distinctly different approach to treatment. Currently some Regional Centers do provide options in treatment approaches. However, in other parts of California, only families able to pay out of pocket have been able to obtain forms of treatment not covered by their insurance. Doctors and psychologists have been frustrated that they could not prescribe the service they felt would be most effective for their patients. Finally, as new regulations are developed, there will be equitable access to autism service program options. California will now join New Jersey, Minnesota, and Illinois as states that offer a choice in autism services."
“Every time a child goes into distress, their young brain is calling to the adult in the room to lead it back to calm.” We hear about “regulation” all the time. But what’s important is that we are co-regulating with our children and students. As the adult and educator we need to lead and meet them with our own calm nervous system. It takes lots of time and experience to build the neural pathways that will support their own self-regulation. Those pathways are built and learned through co-regulation.

So much has shifted in the last three years coming out of the pandemic. Why not education? The research is out there on the benefits of play-based learning and experiences. It shouldn’t just be offered at fancy private schools it should be embedded into our public education system as well. I’m here for making learning more playful!
At a primary school in the UK, a lot has changed in the last three years. What’s different? A newfound appreciation for #play. Both students and #teachers have become more engaged and curious with a shift to a play-based approach - and learning has become more joyful for everyone 👏 “Before the pandemic, [learning] was very structured,” one teacher said. “Play was the reward.” Now, each class has three playful learning experiences in different areas of the #school every week.
