Just got my new security license card yesterday. Too bad it doesn't show off the skill badges but instead, it requires scanning of the QR code to verify license holder details. A step towards professionalisation of private security is the implementation of a comprehensive licensing regime that covers training, competency and experience. Singapore has gone lengths in licensing however, still lagging behind more developed regimes particularly in Europe. I was not given a letter from the Police Licensing Department nearing to my license tenure. I had to appeal to get a higher rank emplacement, not as a junior Security Officer (SO). Got a SSO instead. Not that I'm grateful. The current licensing regime and new rank emplacement system are specifically for private security officers employed by a security agency. Previously, inhouse SOs were not accounted for but I believe they are slowly adopting them, but for field officers. However, why not inhouse management staff who equally do security work, handle sensitive information and supervise guard forces on a daily basis? I opine that security managers employed inhouse should be licensed under the current regime as well, at least a Supervisor level. This would legitimise their work as security personnel, enhance credibility and allows for accountability given the type of work they do. While having a security license depends on the organisational hiring requirements, I opine that it should be implemented across the board for all organisations having a dedicated security manager. Or at least have the Police Licensing Department recognise the years of security work one has done and emplaceme accordingly. Always joke with the supervisors at work. "Next time I work as a guard, your turn to supervise me!"

I agreed with Muhammad Hafiz Bin Rohani but not only on the card itself. Gov organization should vigorously help to shape up the Security Industry and speed up the process. On the other hand, I totally disagree and am disappointed with the PWM model. It opens an opportunity for the Security agency to increase their contract value sum and increase its revenue and at the same time individual organization deprived opportunity to others from joining as in-house officers. Look at some recent events in Singapore e.g. condo & school. Study from that event and improve on it.

Congratulations and way to go my friend, Muhammad Hafiz Bin Rohani. Not bad for the reversal of roles, remember the old adage, "Employees don't do what you expect, they do what you inspect"... 🙂

You make some good points. I like the concept of the scannable card with all of the officers qualifications listed.
