Visit Jabal Rahmah, the Hill of Compassion

Jabal Rahmah, the hill in Mecca that is believed to be the location of the meeting between Prophet Adam and Eve, after their repentance was accepted by Allah and they were reunited. The offspring of Adam and Eve are none other than the citizens of the world today.

On Wednesday (12/7/2023) afternoon until Saudi Arabian time, thousands of Muslims came to Jabal Rahmah despite the hot weather, which reached around 43 degrees Celsius. With a hill that can be climbed in just about 15 minutes, the hot weather was not felt to be burdensome, including by hundreds of Indonesian hajj pilgrims.

Interestingly, Jabal Rahmah has several stops for taking photos. Starting from the courtyard when hiking, in the middle of the hill, and upon arrival at the peak. The monument at the top of Jabal Rahmah, however, is now equipped with a warning not to use the monument as a place of worship.

On a socialization poster at the Jabal Rahmah monument, pictures with photo descriptions in various languages, including Indonesian, are installed about the mistakes of the congregation members. The mistakes described in the pictures include praying at Jabal Rahmah, touching and kissing the monument, and so on.

A small group of pilgrims from Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, also took a photo together in front of the Jabal Rahmah monument on Wednesday afternoon. "This afternoon, we made time to visit Jabal Rahmah with our small group before returning home to the homeland," said one of the mothers in the group.

Three important moments

Besides being the location of the meeting between Prophet Adam and Eve, Jabal Rahmah is also the site of the manifestation of Prophet Ibrahim's love for Allah, who asked for the sacrifice of his beloved son. Bukit Kasih Sayang is also the place where Prophet Muhammad SAW revealed the last verse of the Quran, which is Al Maidah verse 3, announcing the perfection of Islam.

Trio Bimbo describes Jabal Rahmah in the lyrics of the song, "He delivered the word from God today I have perfected your religion, and I have let Islam be your religion, what a noble task, a mercy to the universe, and I have fulfilled my blessings".

According to Samsul Arifin, Indonesian residents in Mecca, the sermon of Prophet Muhammad SAW at Jabal Rahmah, which proclaimed the perfection of Islam, was attended by around 10,000 companions. Instantly after the final verse of the Quran was delivered, the majority of followers cheered with joy.

"Only one was saddened, namely Sayidina Abu Bakar (the caliph Abu Bakar Ash-Shidiq). Because he understood that if Islam had been perfected, there would be no more obligation for Prophet Muhammad to preach. So, Sayidina Abu Bakar had already sensed that perhaps it would not be long before the Prophet would face Allah," said Samsul, who often leads pilgrimage groups from Indonesia and Malaysia."

When Abu Bakar conveyed the information to Caliph Umar bin Khattab and other companions later, tears burst among the prophet's companions. Abu Bakar's intuition was correct because three months later Prophet Muhammad passed away in Medina.

In short, Jabal Rahmah is an important location for Prophet Adam, Prophet Ibrahim, and Prophet Muhammad PBUH. The significant position of Jabal Rahmah is what, according to Samsul, always attracts visitors.

As a monument of love, Jabal Rahmah, rich in stories, will always be filled with Muslims. Muslims consider the journey to Jabal Rahmah as evidence of their love, as the prophets have proven their love for Allah SWT.
