We thought we were suffering from a case of deja-vu when we saw Cate Blanchett at the opening ceremony of Cannes Film Festival yesterday, but it turns out our eyes weren't fooling us. The Australian actress actually re-wore a beautiful black lace Armani Privé gown that was created for her back in 2014.
Blanchett first wore the gown for the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles. It was an obvious winner, as she took home the award for Leading Actress in a Drama Motion Picture for her role in Blue Jasmine.
It's a rare sight in Hollywood, or anywhere else red carpets are present, to see an A-list actress wear the same dress twice. Blanchett is clearly taking a stand on waste, a massive issue facing the fashion industry.
Blanchett told Eco-Age, "from couture to t-shirts, landfill is full of garments that have been unnecessarily discarded. Particularly in today's climate, it seems willful and ridiculous that such garments are not cherished and reworn for a lifetime." It does seem like a shame to leave this sartorial stunner hanging in the back of the closet.
Will we see Blanchett rock some more throwbacks this week? Here's a rundown of some of our favorite fashion moments from the Aussie that we would love to see again.
The French Riviera would be a better backdrop for this delicate white lace dress she wore for the 1999 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Everyone loves a naked dress moment—so Blanchett's Jean Paul Gaultier frock from the 1999 Oscars would also fit in perfectly at Cannes Film Festival.
This Givenchy Haute Couture gown by Riccardo Tisci has long been one of our favorite red carpet looks of all time—so it would warm our fashionable hearts to see Blanchett breathe new life into this look from 2011.
Now, will other actresses follow her lead? We can't wait to see who else serves a fashionable throwback.
