Justin Bieber knows there's plenty more fits in the sea

Justin Bieber has got one of those eclectic wardrobes where anything (anything!) goes. He's done the late noughties scumbro to perfection. He's invoked the pop stars of '90s yore with purple leather and drop crotch slacks. He's even tried his hand at being a Balenciaga pin-up – voluminous suits, platform Crocs and tent-like jeans before shifting to wearing his own brand's big sweatshirts and matching bottoms with self-designed Crocs. For Bieber, every day is a new day to get weird with style (in a good way).

And this week the 29-year-old "Peaches" singer activated a new summer mode: Floridian fisherman. Attending a party with the likes of Kendall Jenner, Bad Bunny and his wife Hailey at Soho House Malibu, it was knee-skimming sweatshorts, a loose tee, oversized hoodie and a bucket hat with the front flipped up. If you're the guy that populates his Tinder profile with images of handheld caught trout, then one: you and everyone else brother, and two: at least get snapped in a big fit like this.

Bieber's trawlerman look actually speaks to a wider movement in menswear, where guys are getting all gorpy and At One With Nature. Durable Gore-tex sneakers designed for mountain trails, but worn on the street? Drakes doing it, we're doing it, and designers – Moncler, Loewe, Gucci – are pushing for it. Arc'teryx jackets are the holy grails of dressing like you've got some time in with nature, but actually are just heading to Soho for a pint with your mates. Cargo shorts that sit just below the knee are among the vibiest things a guy can wear right now, because functionality remains in fashion, and it's a rare example of ultra comfortable being ultra in.

Pull up a stool and reel it in, son: this summer, your wardrobe's gone fishin'.
