In the immoral words of Britney Spears, you want a hot body… you better work, bitch

And while we personally prefer our inner monologues to be a teeny bit gentler (it's all about self-compassion, bitch), there's no denying "Work Bitch" is a cracking workout track with a fast-paced, repetitive poppy beat that makes you just want to do that last rep or run that extra mile.

Which is why we're all kinds of obsessed with Britney Spears's latest Instagram video, where she performs a whole fitness routine to the soundtrack to her hit tune. Because (we can only imagine) working out to your own song is about as empowering as it gets.

You said you wanted to free Britney Spears. So let her be free

Did you mean “Free Britney”? Or “Free Britney to entertain me”?

Free Britney Spears signs

Posting on her grid to her 39.4 million Instagram followers, Britney shared an IGTV video of herself performing a vigorous fitness routine wearing a yellow crop top (which shows off her trademark killer abs), black workout shorts and blue-grey trainers, together with a pair of white-rimmed aviator style sunglasses. Her blonde hair (which currently has striking pink ends) is tied back in a ponytail.

She captioned the video post, “Yellow caution !!! Here I go”. From the looks of things, it's shot at what look like various locations around Britney's lavish home – where she lives with her PT fiance Sam Asghari – including a private gym space and a garden next to a pond and water feature.

The 4-year-old pop star looks happy and filled with energy as she performs what looks like a full-length workout – no doubt inspired in part by Sam (who has commented on the post with muscle emojis – ever the supportive beau!).

So what does a Britney ‘Work Bitch' workout consist of? Well, according to this footage, things kick off with a warm-up, followed by…(yes we've written out the whole routine)…

Britney Spears's workout routine

  • Commando planks
  • Exercise ball raises
  • Bar bell raises
  • Hanging leg raises
  • Chest flies
  • Crunches
  • Treadmill power walk
  • Arm pull-downs
  • Bicycle crunches
  • Yoga stretches

Unsurprising, Britney's followers were loving the post. Comments included “You better work queen. We’re waiting patiently for your comeback” and “I love seeing you with your own iconic songs queen!!”

“It’s the “let me workout to my own song” for me honey,” reads a further comment.

Another fan wrote, “I'm taking my sunglasses to the gym too!!” – taking a cue from the star's unusual indoor workout accessory, which she actually addressed in a previous gym post, writing, “If you’ve never done it before, I suggest you do … It was my first time and it actually enhances the movement with feeling versus what it looks like.”

So working out in sunglasses helps you focus on the physical activity? Hey… if it works for Britney, we're sort of curious to try it out (if a TikTok star doesn't get there before us, that is…)

It's especially uplifting to see after years of the #FreeBritney movement, where the star fought to release herself from the 13-year conservatorship under her father, Jamie Spears. She was finally “freed” in September last year.

Since then, the OG Princess of Pop has been bringing major fire to her Instagram account, ranging from sharing sexy poses in lingerie (and naked) to high-energy dance videos which showcase her incredible talent. The point being? She can do whatever the hell she wants.

It's even been dubbed “free woman energy”, a phrase that Britney herself used in her naked post (which she covered up partially with emojis).

She's also used her Instagram account to share personal content, which calls out the hurt caused by her family and some individuals in the music industry whom she claims did not support her during this time – together with opening up about what it was like to live under conservatorship.
