Jon Bon Jovi Went Through Some Pretty ‘Dark Misery’ To Complete His New Album

Following

Less than a week ago, the rock band Bon Jovi announced a new album and dropped a single to accompany the reveal. As the group kicks off their latest era, the lead singer, Jon Bon Jovi, recently spoke about how this latest chapter is all about the upbeat and the happy—something he could really use at this time.

“The overarching sentiment of this album is that of joy,” Bon Jovi said to Ultimate Classic Rock. He then asked himself, “How did I get to joy?,” and answered his own query: “I had to work through a lot of dark misery!”

Bon Jovi’s new album is called, simply, Forever. It was announced alongside the single “Legendary,” which is decidedly joyful, as the singer states. The tune features lines like “I raise my hands up to the sky / Don't need more to tell me I'm alive” and “Right where I am is where I wanna be,” which seem to paint a pretty rosy image of what’s to come.

The rocker continued to discuss the happiness he feels now–and the lack of that emotion he was feeling until recently–stating, “It’s been a decade since I was able to purely feel joy.” Bon Jovi continued, “You know, that takes a lot when you think about it, because most of us in this crazy world, you’ve got your head down and you’re focused on your work, your family, making ends meet, doing something productive.”

Bon Jovi also commented that when he started to make “Legendary” and the album it’s featured on, he was focused on something much less tangible than commercial success and far more rewarding. “What matters to me [now] is just being here with my friends, writing the song that I want to write and living the life I want to live,” he reportedly stated to the songwriters who helped him craft his new single.

The singer has been dealing with health issues for several years now that have stopped him from working like he used to. In a recent radio interview to promote “Legendary,” the rocker detailed how he was able to make an album, as he could do it one song at a time and take breaks when he wanted, but his vocal injuries have put his touring career into question.

Forever is expected to arrive at some point later in 2024, though a specific date hasn’t been shared yet. The set will mark the first from the band since the timely 2020, which dropped in October of that year.
