Robbie Williams addressed the emotional phone call which ended his relationship with Ayda Field as part of his Netflix series. During the fourth episode of the programme which aired in the winter, Ayda recalled the heartbreaking moment Robbie broke up with her at the start of their relationship.

The former Take That star called her one morning to explain his team was sending him to rehab because his life was spiralling out of control. "It was my entry into addiction," Ayda explained as she remembered the first time she'd seen Robbie taking drugs.

"You wouldn't notice his personality change but all of a sudden he would throw up watching TV," the mother of his children explained to the cameras.

Robbie, who has come out the other side, said he thought he would be better off dead when his addiction problems worsened during the earlier years of his stardom.

"There was a sense of... It would be better if I passed away, I didn't care and it would be alright," he admitted as part of the programme which was very candid. Robbie added: "For me to change I'd need to be dying, die or stop what you're doing."

Ayda said of the heartbreaking phone call: "I remember it was 2am and I called him and I was like, 'I am just getting on the highway' and he's like, 'Are you driving? Call me when you get home.'"

Robbie recalled: "My management have done an intervention and they're gonna take me to rehab."

"And he is like, 'I can't be in a relationship, I have to get better and I can't be with you. I have to break up with you.'

She explained: "And it was like, I understood it because I saw that he was unwell and I remember thinking, 'I just want you to get better.'

She said she was "so crestfallen" adding: "He was my soulmate and then he was gone."

Robbie woke up in rehab on the day of his 33rd birthday and later got back together with Ayda.

The duo went on to get married and have children together, Teddy, 10, Charlie, eight, Coco, four, and Beau, three.

The singer and Ayda, who was an actress in Days of Our Lives, met back in 2006 while working on a documentary.

They ended up getting married four years later, and live in the Holland Park area of Kensington, in London. Their home is meant to be worth an estimated £17 million.

Robbie Williams is available to watch on Netflix on Wednesday, November 8.
