By all accounts, “127 Hours” is not for the faint of heart or stomach.

The new movie from director Danny Boyle tells the story of Aron Ralston, the hiker who in 2003 was trapped for four days under a boulder and had to amputate his own arm with a dull knife to survive. Ralston, played by James Franco in the movie, recently purchased a home in Boulder.

Newsweek magazine has reported that at least 13 people have passed out at early showings and another three had seizures, something that rarely happens even at gore-fests like “Saw.” Critics blame the movie’s stark realism, which triggers a visceral reaction in viewers.

“127 Hours” opens next week in Colorado.
