While Monday, April 17, will forever be known as The Day Zac Followed Vanessa™️, it remains unclear when exactly the Firestarter actor *actually* added his ex to his following list since some fans are claiming that it happened earlier this month ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. A lil refresher: The former High School Musical costars dated for five years before ultimately parting ways in December 2010. But throughout that time, Zac and Vanessa gave many an adoring interview gushing about working and being together.

“For all of the partner things, me and Vanessa always got paired up,” Zac said during a 2007 interview with Disney when speaking about his audition with the fellow actor. “I was like, ‘They’re not trying us with other people.’ For some reason, we kept sticking around [for callbacks]. I don’t know what it was with Vanessa, but we kind of clicked from the very beginning.” The following year, it was Vanessa who gushed about her now ex, telling CosmoGirl in 2008 (via People), “If you really love someone, you shouldn’t have to work at it. You finish each other’s sentences and have the same sense of humor.”

And though the pair initially sparked reconciliation rumors in the months following their split, we now know they both went on to see other people. Zac even dated an entirely different Vanessa in 2021, while V herself wound up in a relationship with Austin Butler for nearly nine years and more recently got engaged to baseball player Cole Tucker this February after more than two years of being together. (And, yes, Vanessa and Cole have since confirmed the happy news with a truly adorable Insta post. Witness:)

So while our little pre-teen selves are low-key obsessed with the whole “Zac following Vanessa again” news, the singer seems to be the happiest she’s ever been with Cole and Cole alone. Love this for her!
