Former Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear joined Dave Grohl onstage at the Foo Fighters show at Safeco Field on Saturday for a mini reunion, where the group performed a cover of the Vaselines’ “Molly’s Lips.” Fans criticized the performance, disappointed that the band would play without late frontman Kurt Cobain.
Novoselic made light of the situation, taking to Twitter to joke about Cobain’s absence. “We tried to get a hold of him for this gig—as many times as we tried to contact Kurt, we couldn’t get through,” he wrote. “The phone just kept ringing & ringing. Kurt does not have email. In fact I have never emailed him in my life and I have been online since 1993.”

Cobain died on April 5, 1994, but Nirvana has reunited several times since. Most recently, the group performed at another Foo Fighters show last year in Eugene, Oregon.
