The Falco Hawkfish (Cirrhitichthys falco), with its bold red, white colors and unique perching behavior, is an enjoyable addition to most marine aquariums. Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, this species brings a touch of playfulness and entertainment value to fish only and reef aquariums.

Aquarium Setup: Falco Hawkfish thrive in aquariums with a minimum size of 30 gallons, providing sufficient space for their active swimming and perching behavior. The inclusion of live rock formations, caves, and elevated surfaces will cater to their natural inclination to perch and observe their surroundings as they wait for their next meal. A well-aerated environment with stable water conditions, including a temperature range of 72-78°F (22-26°C), a pH between 8.1 and 8.4, and a specific gravity of 1.020 to 1.025, is essential for their well-being.

Water Parameters: Maintaining stable water quality is important for the health of the Falco Hawkfish. Regular monitoring of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate levels, along with consistent water changes, contributes to optimal conditions for these captivating fish.

Diet: The Falco Hawkfish is a carnivorous species, and its diet should include a variety of small meaty foods. Offer high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp or LRS brand food, Masstick, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood. This species is known to be a voracious eater, and it will eat multiple times per day, provided the opportunity.

Compatibility: Falco Hawkfish are generally peaceful and can be housed with a variety of tankmates. Ideal companions include other non-aggressive fish species, such as gobies, smaller wrasses, and other reef-safe fish. However, exercise caution with smaller shrimp or very small fish that may be perceived as prey. Additionally, avoid housing them with highly territorial or aggressive tankmates to prevent potential conflicts.

Reef Safety: The Falco Hawkfish is considered reef safe, making it a suitable addition to reef aquariums. Unlike some hawkfish species, the Falco Hawkfish is less likely to disturb corals or invertebrates. Its perching behavior on rock formations adds a unique and engaging element to the reef environment without posing a threat to the delicate balance of a coral setup.

Disease Prevention: Proactive disease prevention measures are vital to maintaining the health of Falco Hawkfish. Quarantine new additions before introducing them to the main tank to prevent the potential spread of pathogens. Regular observation, proper diet, and a stress-free environment contribute to disease prevention.
