Amphiprion ephippium (Bloch,1790)

Colour features and size: Body and fins reddish-orange, lacking white bars (except small juveniles); black spots or saddle on sides ususally varies in size with the size of the individual, being small in subadults and covering much of the posterior body in mature fishes. Maximum length about 120mm. Dorsal spines (total): 10-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-18; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 13-14. / Juveniles lack the black blotch but have a white bar running just behind the head. / Found in silty coastal waters and protected bays where visibility is often reduced. Associated with the anemones Heteractis crispa, Entacmaea quadricolor, and Stichodactylus spp.. Has been reared in captivity.

A. ephippium are bold and hardy fish, but they are unique among clowns in their nearly incomplete intolearnce to being treated with copper. Copper medications cause high mortality as well as skin lesions. (If copper must be used, limit bits application to two days and follow the treatment with an antibiotic). For this reason, they are probably not a good species choiced for a novice aquarist

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Thailand, Malaysia, and Java and Sumatra in Indonesia.
