Better than expected.

I didn't buy this to be an e reader but as a small tablet PC, and I was rather surprised with how well it works. I'm using it much more than I thought I would. Most of the time I use an aftermarket Android OS (CyanogenMod) booting off a micro SD, there's no need to root or jail break the stock firmware to do this. With the aftermarket firmware, it also has Bluetooth, the micro USB can be used as a host USB with an adapter or USB gender changer, and it will charge the battery while plugged in to a PC's USB, normally it will only charge with the wall charger.

My biggest complaint with the stock firmware is B&N's app store, the apps are fairly pricey, apps that are free elsewhere you have to pay for, there are a few free apps from B&N but not many. With the aftermarket firmware I'm using the Amazon app market, much better selection and prices.

Cons: The sound is about what I expected, fairly poor, but is greatly improved by using an amplified external speaker. The micro SD slot is in a very poor location making it very difficult to insert and remove, it's located under a hinged cover behind the loop in the lower left corner, it's well protected there, just not easy to access. Don't expect to watch streamed HD video, however, sites like YouTube work fine.

Despite the cons, I give 5 stars, I think it's a great value, I have been very pleased with it.

well it meets its description and reviews and it actually got here earlier than it was supposed to and had I checked my mail I would've had it Haha. so I originally had a nook simple touch and that had e-ink and I loooooved it. it was all I wanted and more. unfortunately it got water damaged and I'm not the type to try and send something back so I decided to get another then I saw this one and read the reviews and thought, hmmm I should give it a try. nook did it again it was great. As usual the downside of nook is you have to put in a credit card to use anything in their app store or download any book even free but, I'm not too worried about it. as for battery life its not that fantastic coming from an e-ink. if I read constantly I've got maybe 6 hours of battery (and this is brand new) or if I leave the screen off and in stand by its good for two days. but that's your trade off for a color screen that functions more like a tablet.

Speaking of tablet. I did purchase an N2A card for the nook color. its great if you want to download apps and do the usual type of thing that you can do on an iPad/tablet/ or phone. the nook store didn't have many apps and most of them were paid apps if you want to use this more like a tablet I would say get an n2a card. if not its fantastic for reading too! I absolutely love it as both and you can switch back and forth. I've had it for about a month now with no complaint (except maybe the battery lol) I would reccomend this to anyone who wants an easy to use and somewhat inexpensive ereader and/or tablet.

I have a Kindle and now I have a Nook Tablet. I really like both of them. I do use the Nook for Magazines as well as books and the color is great. I also teach Preschool and "read" books to my students from the Nook with color pictures. My preschoolers think it is really neat. It is much sturdier than the first nook I looked at several years ago. I am very pleased. I am still getting used to it as it does work somewhat differently than my Kindle. But it is easy to get started initially and easy to navigate. I do recommend that you purchase a stylus to turn pages but that is just how I have gotten used to doing it. You may just want to use your finger. I really like the backlit function so I can read in bed after the lights are off and not bother my husband with a light.I really have not found any negatives about it.

I'm increasingly pleased with my NOOK Color, but it wasn't easy to get going with it. First, I couldn't decide between the NOOK and a Kindle, but as my wife had a NOOK and was very pleased, I decided to go with that. When I got it, I was very excited. I turned it on and was instructed to find a wireless network to start with. It found my wireless network, I input the password, and nothing.... It wouldn't respond. It wouldn't take my perfectly legitimate password. I'm supposed to be a minor techie, but I couldn't get it to respond, which ticked me off. However, my wife did something to it -- I don't know what -- and it took it and my wireless has been fine since. (However, yesterday my wife lost HER wireless connection although every other wireless connection in the house was fine, so she had to restart her NOOK, which seemed to work.) Then, after I was in my new NOOK, I looked around the store some, downloaded a book, magazine, and a few apps, and then wondered how to access libraries to get free books to read. There were no instructions anywhere, although I know people do this. My wife did it, for Pete's sake! Well, she told me I had to download an Adobe app called Overdrive Media Console in order to access libraries and library books. How in the world I would have discovered that on my own is beyond me and I think it stinks that there's not an easier way that Barnes & Noble could have built into the device. Nonetheless, I downloaded the app. It wouldn't install. I was about to pull my hair out when my lovely wife came to my aid once more and got it working. I accessed my local library, where I have an account and downloaded a book. However, when I went to other libraries to check out their selections, I found that they charge fees, like $50 to become a member just to download their books! That's crazy! What could it possibly cost these libraries to have out of town/state members download their books? What a ripoff. Anyway, I started using my NOOK and haven't had any trouble since. Just a bumpy beginning. I like reading magazines on this device. That's the whole point of getting Color, isn't it? The Article View is a nice feature and makes it easy to read magazine articles. It's very different, however, when it comes to books. That is, it's easy to read books I've bought and downloaded -- just choose them with my stylus. But to open a library book, I first have to open my Overdrive Media Console app and get through several screens before I can begin reading. Oh well. I have my email enabled on my NOOK, as well as my Twitter feed, DropBox, and Pinterest too. It would be nice to have a Facebook app, but it doesn't yet have one, so you can use the built in browser for that. It's also possible to upload pictures and songs from your computer, but I haven't done that yet. The NOOK is light and it's easy to read, for which I'm grateful. You can modify the screen brightness, which was important to me. I haven't tried out newspapers yet, but hope to soon. Oh, about magazines. Individual issues can be pricey, but if you subscribe, they have pretty reasonable fees. Most cost only $1.99 a month, which is a huge savings off the individual price for both NOOK and paper issues. It's a good deal. It seems to be a good e-reader or tablet or whatever they're called these days and after getting by the first hurdles, I'm now glad I bought this product and heartily recommend it to others.
