What is Orgonite? Discover the Origins of this Spiritual Powerhouse!

Anyone who sees Orgonite for the first time is probably a bit puzzled by it. Bits of colored stone and glitter fused together in resin, Orgonite looks a bit like a Christmas decoration! First we need to understand the life energy it is based on: Orgone.

Orgone Cosmic Energy

In the 1930’s, controversial Austrian-American psychoanalyst, sexologist and biologist Wilhelm Reich announced his discovery of a new type of cosmic life energy: Orgone. Reich claimed to have discovered Orgone after several years of microbiological research. According to him, Orgone is a massless but omnipresent energy associated with living creatures. Based on this theory, he built tools to try and harness it.  For example, Reich thought that he could attract Orgone energy by stacking several layers of fiberglass and steel wool. According to him, the cosmic energy he trapped with this ‘Accumulator’ would be able to kill viruses and would have a positive influence on body and mind.

The Orgone Accumulator

The Accumulators were large boxes of alternating layers of natural and synthetic materials. According to Reich, an Acuumulator could contain both positive and negative Orgone. Being a psychoanalyst, Reich used his invention in his practice. Patients sat in the Accumulators and supposedly “bathed” in concentrated Orgone. Reich was also convinced that in addition to the positive Orgone exposure, sitting in the accumulator was physically relaxing enough to benefit his patients mentally.

The Cloudbuster

The Cloudbuster was an instrument with which Reich tried to influence the Orgone in the atmosphere and with which he thought could cause it to rain. The buster itself looked a bit like a lightning rod and consisted of long copper pipes grounded in a basin of water. According to Reich, water was the perfect element to conduct Orgone. When the Cloudbuster’s tube pointed upward, it would supposedly attract life energy and create clouds, causing it to rain. Despite many experiments, Reich could never prove the effectiveness of his Cloudbuster.

Who Invented Orgonite?

Orgonite is a relatively new invention. In the early 2000’s Don and Carol Croft developed the material based on the work of Reich. This American couple experimented with his ideas about Orgone and tried to create a material that converts negative energy into positive energy. What they came up with is a beautiful combination of crystals, resin and metal. The Crofts called this new material Orgonite. The word comes from ‘Orgone’, the energy they wished to manipulate and ‘ite’ a suffix related to the crystals.

What is Orgonite Made of and What is it For?

Orgonite consists of synthetic resin, crystal chips, and copper shavings. This mixture is cast in molds, so it can be made into just about any shape!  The point of Orgonite is to capture universal energy, transform it into positive life energy, and then distribute it.

You may be asking yourself “How does Orgonite work?” Theoretically, the gemstones fragments absorb negative energy and produce positive energy. At the same time, the metals supposedly reflect radiation and produce outward energy. Because of this push and pull of energies, the Crofts believed their creation was a type of mini generator for positive Orgone.
