06. Video

To include video in your eportfolio, it will need to be uploaded to one of the following online services first:

  • Google Drive
  • Youtube
  • Other photo/video repository (eg Photobucket)

It is not possible to upload a video directly and have it available for viewing within the site. A video may be uploaded in the Add files area, but will require the viewer to download and play on their PC. Videos uploaded by this method count towards to 100mb site size limit.

05.1 Video and Google Drive

Video uploaded into Google drive can be up to 10GB in size (although the free storage area is limited to 5GB overall) and needs to be in one of the following file formats:

  • WebM files (Vp8 video codec; Vorbis Audio codec)
  • .MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files - (h264 and mpeg4 video codecs; AAC audio codec)
  • .AVI (MJPEG video codec; PCM audio)
  • .MPEGPS (MPEG2 video codec; MP2 audio)
  • .WMV
  • .FLV (Adobe - FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio)

Upload video into the publicly shared folder (or subfolder) that you have organised to hold your eportfolio documents. Once uploaded, video can be embedded into your eportfolio by clicking on Insert >> Video >> Google Docs video (Do not use the Google video option, this is a redundant service).

05.2 Video and Youtube

Go to the Insert >> Video > > YouTube. Paste in the youtube video URL and change the display parameters to suit. Click Save. For information on how to upload video to Youtube visit this Youtube support page.

05.3 Video and other repositories (eg Photobucket)

Photobucket is an online photo and video repository that allows you unlimited photo storage and up to 500 videos (with the free account). Read the terms and conditions and take note of the rights you give these services if you make your videos (and photos) public.

The video file formats supported by photobucket are:

  • 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp
  • avi
  • divx
  • flv
  • mov
  • mp4, mpeg4, mpg4, mpeg, mpg

All video files are converted to mp4 format when you upload them.

Create a Photobucket account and upload and sort videos into albums.

Embedding a video is achieved by grabbing the HTML code from photobucket:

embed

Then Click on <HTML> on the google site editing toolbar and paste the code. No need to paste the code into the correct place as you can drag and drop the created embed gadget anywhere on the page.

Other photo and video sharing and storage services have similar methods of embedding and sharing.
