Lorde’s hit song "Royals" has officially received the rock star treatment.

Earlier this year, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic performed the New Zealander’s Grammy-winning jam in Takoma Park, Md., adding his own twist to the hit.

Instead of using his guitar, Novoselic opted for an accordion rendition. The famous bassist worked the squeeze box like a pro, playing the number as part of a Fair Vote campaign event.

It appears the fandom goes both ways. On Thursday night, Lorde joined Novoselic and the other surviving members of Nirvana to perform “All Apologies” as part of the grunge band‘s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
