Recently the was rocked all night by Captain Jack, playing a Billy Joel tribute concert.  The famous five piece band not only played Billy Joel, but music by Elton John, The Beatles, Paul Simon,  Simon and Garfunkel and many more.

  • Michael Lipiner-Vocalist/Keyboardist
  • Zach Goodman- Guitar/Vocals

The band opened the show up to a packed audience with Billy Joel, and then went into "Me and Julio Down By The School Yard" by Paul Simon.  After that, they played "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel, and then went into the Motown Era with the famous tune by The Jackson 5, "I Want You Back."

Now a few songs into the set, Lipiner took a minuet to address the audience.  He thanked everyone for coming, and informed everyone that this is their fifth anniversary of doing this show.  They then played "Let it Be" by The Beatles, dedicating it to the memory of a band member they tragically lost, Harry Wilner.

After a playing a number of other songs, including "Oh What A Night" by The Four Seasons, the band left the stage briefly for a round of solo songs by Lipiner.  He asked the people in the lightning booth to turn the house lights on, creating a soothing atmosphere for the Billy Joel favorite, "She's Always A Woman."  He also played "Just The Way You Are," dedicating it to all the couples in the audience.

The band soon after joined in, as they took off to classic rock and roll, playing Great Balls of Fire by Otis Blackwell and Jack Hammer.  They continued playing song after song, letting the audience join in on vocal sections.  After concluding their set and walking off stage, the applauding crowd cheered for an encore, to which Lipiner came back and replied: "How can I resist?"  The band played "Souvenir" by Billy Joel, and then the famous "Shout" by The Isley Brothers.

Vocalist/keyboardist Michael Lipiner's amazing skilled playing never missed a single note all night.  The rest of the band were right on point from beginning to end, displaying true musicianship by knowing their role in each song and working with their bandmates.

After the show, some of the local Dix Hills audience members were brimming with excitement from the energetic and fun performance:

"I've seen Billy Joel, and a number of the other musicians they played tonight, and I tell you...if I closed my eyes, I thought I was listening to the actual bands playing.  They were spot on and so talented, I can't wait to see them again!"

"It was a very pleasant surprise to hear other music besides Billy Joel.  They are a well versed and wonderfully skilled band.  I brought my mother with me and seeing her sing along and have so much fun was a blessing."

"You just can't beat it, this kind of quality entertainment right in our little town.  It's literally five minuets away from where I live...I don't need to go to Madison Square Garden, this was perfect!"

"What a wonderful night it was, seeing such talented musicians play different songs from different eras.  I would recommend seeing Captain Jack to anyone and everyone who enjoys not only Billy Joel, but music in general."
