Bare biking is back — Philly Naked Bike Ride returns on Aug. 26

The gears and rears are in motion for another nude bicycle ride around the City of Brotherly Love.

Organizers of the Philly Naked Bike Ride said the next au-naturel event will speed into town on Aug. 26.

The naked ride launched in 2009 with the goal of promoting body positivity and fuel conservation and has been held annually ever since, with the exception of 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It started at 4 miles and last year increased to 12.

“One of the goals of the Philly Naked Bike Ride is to desexualize nudity and to encourage everyone to embrace nudity as a normal, enjoyable way of life,” its code of conduct reads.

“Following this policy will help further this goal and teach all of us how to be better people in general.”

In the past, stripped-down participants have wheeled past historic sites in the city such as Independence Hall, the U.S. Mint, the Liberty Bell, iconic cheesesteak eateries like Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, home to the famous “Rocky” steps.

This year’s location and route will not be disclosed until the day prior to the festivities.

The celebration is referred to as a “Bare As You Dare” event, so riders can be completely nude or dress in any amount of clothing they’re comfortable wearing.

Some choose to paint body parts and scrawl messages on their bodies.

Although nakedness is encouraged, sneakers are suggested for safety reasons.
