Summary:
A greenish-brown goby with five dark brown to blackish bars along the side, a pale-edged dark stripe through the eye and another across the cheek, white streaks on the head, small white spots in 3-4 horizontal rows on the body, a black spot on the first dorsal fin and a black spot on the upper part of the caudal-fin base.

Distribution |
Rottnest Island and offshore reefs of Western Australia, and Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, to Sydney, New South Wales; also Lord Howe Island in the Tasman Sea, and Cocos (Keeling) Islands in the Eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, east-Indo-west-central Pacific. Individuals or pairs inhabit sand and rubble areas on coastal reefs and lagoons. |
Feeding |
Feeds on small invertebrates, organic matter, and algae sifted from mouthfuls of sand. |
Biology |
The sexes are separate, males and females form monogamous pairs. Males tend the eggs which are laid in burrows. |
