The redspotted sandperch is distributed in temperate to tropical regions of the Indo-Pacific, and in Japan south of Sagami Bay. The redspotted sandperch inhabits sandy areas, and feeds on small fish and crustaceans. There are lines of red blotches on the lower half of its dorsal side. The soft rays of its dorsal fin are pale with small dark spots.
