Ringed Slender Wrasse

Hologymnosus annulatus

Dark green with vertical stripes.
Juvenile phase with pale yellow back and brown to blackish lower body half. Always swims near seabed, usually above sand and rubble.

Size : 40 cm

Habitat : Clear lagoons, bays and protected outer reefs, 5-35 m. Frequently in area with alternating coral, rubble and sand surfaces. Male roams a large home territory. Predominantly feeds on fish, also supplemented by small crustaceans.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Line Islands to French Polynesia and Pitcairn.
