Hemigymnus fasciatus

Broad dark vertical strips.

Size : 50 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and outreefs, 1-25 m. Prefers protected reefs and mixed zones with sand, rubble and coral. Alone, occasianally in small group. Feeds on invertebrate bottom-dwellers, among them britle-worms, crustaceans, brittle starfish and mollluscs.

Distribution : East Africa to S Japan, Micronesia, Line Islands, French Polynesia and Ducie Islands.
