Mimic Surgeonfish

Acanthurus pyroferus

Adults brown with red spot above pectoral fin base, and black band from the chin to eye rear. Juveniles in two colour variants: solid yellow or blackish in back, greyish in front.

Size : 25 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and outreefs, 2-60 m. Adults usually swim alone in mixed areas of coral, sand and rock.

Distribution : Cocos Keeling to SW Japan, Hawaii, Micronesia and French Polynesia.
