Banded Snake Eel

Myrichthys colubrinus

Black bands, occasionally with spots in the interstices. Is often confused with the Colubrine Sea Krait.

Size : 90 cm

Habitat : In sand and seaweed zones of bays, lagoons and outreefs, 0.3-25 m. Predominantly nocturnal, also goes out hunting in open waters. Feeds on fish and crustaceans.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, GBR and French Polynesia.
