Ornate Butterflyfish

Chaetodon ornatissimus

Usually six orange diagonal stripes, black stripes in caudal fin.

Size : 20 cm

Habitat : Frequently at outer reef slopes, less often also in lagoons, 1-40 m. Juveniles can be seen alone and usually between branch coral. Adult patrol in pairs through their home territory. Feeds on coral polyps and mucus.

Distribution : The Maldives to SW Japan, Hawaii and French Polynesia.
