Dardanus megistos (Herbst, 1804)

Dardanus megistos is the largest of the marine hermit crabs at Kwajalein (although smaller than the terrestrial coconut crab Birgus latro) and is moderately common on lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs.

This species is the only one is large enough to occasionally be found in shells of the large triton's trumpet, Charonia tritonis, which can grow to about 47cm at Kwajalein.
