Single-rope technique is used in caving, potholing, rock climbing, canyoning, roped access for building maintenance and by arborists for tree climbing, although to avoid confusion in the tree climbing community, many have taken to calling it "stationary" rope technique. The two-ascender "frog" is a sit-stand system.
The SRT is hard to beat when the climb is long or when the rope cannot be isolated around a single limb. This is often the case when installing lines in.
